What is Darjeeling tea?

Darjeeling tea estates are located at the foothills of Himalayas in North East of India at an altitude ranging between 2000 to 7000 feet. Unique soil and climatic conditions provide a distinct muscatel flavor to Darjeeling teas. In Darjeeling, each season produces such different flavor teas that they are know by different names. Due to its unique characteristics Darjeeling was granted Geographical Indication (GI) much like Champagne. No wonder Darjeeling teas are also frequently referred as "Champagne of teas"
